| Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the income sources of BlueSkies? 2. Why does BlueSkies ask for donations? 3. Why does BlueSkies need donations if fees for enrollment in the Childrens Program cover the full cost of care? 1. What are the income sources of BlueSkies? BlueSkies is a private non-profit (501(c)3) organization with diverse income sources. BlueSkies receives no public funding for children's enrollment, and the children's program relies on tuition to cover the full cost of care for the children. Gifts from individual donors and private foundations support a scholarship fund for the children's program, which enables us to offer tuition assistance to approximately 20 percent of the families currently enrolled in BlueSkies. The Neighborhood Accreditation Center adult education program is heavily subsidized by foundation grants and individual gifts to cover the cost of instructors and administration. Donations from individual donors also support tuition assistance for students who cannot afford the registration fees. Student fees pay for the cost of registration at Cal State of the East Bay (Hayward), books and supplies. |
2. Why does BlueSkies ask for donations? BlueSkies seeks to serve all children, families and teachers regardless of ability to pay. Fundraising supports the scholarship fund for children, facilities renewal, adult education and improvements to staff compensation. 3. Why does BlueSkies need donations if fees for enrollment in the Childrens Program cover the full cost of care? Although full tuition for enrollment in the Childrens Program reflects the full cost of childrens care, it still does not pay the full cost of operating the programbecause full tuition does not include the cost of tuition reductions for those families who cannot pay the full fees. Donations to the BlueSkies scholarship fund support our efforts to offer need-based tuition assistance to as many families as possible, while still maintaining a balanced budget and operating reserve fund, as well as providing our teachers with living wages that correspond to the value we place on their work.
